Baywood Sawmill has reached a landmark moment in its history, officially opening a brand-new Luxscan Line at its Maryborough facility; the centrepiece of a major expansion that will take the mill's output to four times its current capacity.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony brought together community leaders, industry representatives, and the Baywood team to mark the occasion. State Member for Maryborough, John Barounis MP, did the honours, joined by Mick Stephens from Timber Queensland, Simon Parnell from the Department of Natural Resources and Mines, Manufacturing and Regional and Rural Development (Wide Bay Manufacturing), and Baywood Managing Director Nigel Pederson.

World-Class Technology, Right Here in Maryborough

The Luxscan Line brings precision scanning and optimisation technology to Baywood's operations, enabling smarter, faster processing of timber through the mill. For our team, it represents a step-change in capability and a commitment to the long-term future of the Maryborough operation.

As Nigel Pederson noted, this expansion is not just about volume. It's about positioning Baywood and the broader Queensland timber industry to meet growing demand with world-class standards.

What This Means for the Region

A fourfold increase in mill output means more than bigger numbers. It means more timber produced locally, more jobs supported in the Wide Bay region, and more opportunity for the community that has always been at the heart of what Baywood does.

John Barounis MP summed it up well on the day: "this is great news for Maryborough."

We couldn't agree more.

A Day to Remember

The Baywood crew marked the occasion in style, sporting specially made commemorative racing caps as a nod to going 4x. It was a moment of real pride for everyone involved, from the team on the floor to the guests who travelled to be part of it.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate. And thank you — as always — to the Baywood team, whose skill, dedication, and hard work make milestones like this possible.

Maryborough, the best is yet to come.
